Random Organizing Idea - Scarves

Do you own a lot of scarves?  How do you store or display them?  As for me, I used to have them strewn about the house in different locations and always forget to wear them.  Later, I began hanging them on a wire shelf in my bedroom, but as my collection grew, the collection began to look really messy.  I had been contemplating this for a while, but decided to give it a shot today while I was cleaning our bedroom.

QUILT RACK AS SCARF HANGER

My grandfather and uncle made me a quilt rack a few years back after I began working on my first quilt.  Well, I finally finished it (6 years later), and it is now on our bed.  That left an empty rack on our wall... perfect for said scarf collection.

I hope you or someone you know can use this random organizing tip of the day! :)

31 Pins: Day 5

I was so tired of having all of my jewelry just sort of laying around on my dresser.  Every once in a while I would untangle the necklaces and roll them up in a doily in an effort to seem organized.  As soon as I saw this pin, I knew I had to do it.

Original pin:

They used a towel rack and shower curtain hooks and it looks really nice.  Last week I saw my friend's jewelry looking good on a tie holder inside the closet door.  Being on a budget, I went with the cheapest option.  Of course I did not buy the $6 towel rack at Ollie's because I thought it would be cheaper at Walmart... I was wrong.  Instead of a towel rack, I went with an "over the sink shelf".  It has legs that fold down, but I did not even cut the zip ties.  It was $5.  And, of course, Walmart did not have plain hooks.  I ended up getting cafe clips... whatever those are. ??

Here is the before:

Here is the dresser after:

The results:

I used 2 "Incredible Hooks" for drywall.  Surprisingly, they actually worked.  And I did it myself!  I did use a work glove to get the bent part in there.

It's behind the door, so it is out of the way in case we move furniture in the future.

I am pleased with this organizational pin!  It seems that the shelf worked better for me since I had some rings and bracelets to store, as well.  I think I will be wearing more jewelry since I can actually see what I have now.  Also, I can see the griffin on my doily, made by my Gram in honor of my Gryffin. :)

Expense rating: Less than $10
Difficulty rating: Easy +

31 Pins in 31 Days

A while ago, I received an email invitation to join Pinterest (back when you had to be invited).  I did not jump immediately, but finally joined after hearing some hype from co-workers.  I had no idea what was going on and did not use it at first.  Slowly, I began to look at pins and follow more people.  Then I began pinning myself.

The question I ask myself every time: Am I really going to do these things or just keep pinning.  (I am a very picky pinner, by the way......).

It seems counterproductive to sit on my butt and think of all of these things I could do or make.  So, lately, I have been considering having a "Pinterest Party" or some gathering where people can actually plan to complete something they have pinned.  I am still interested in that, but also came upon another opportunity... for the blog.

What is something I could blog about for 31 days (in October)?  Hmmm.... How about I *attempt to* complete 31 pins in 31 days!?  This would be a mixture of recipes, crafts, gifts, decor, organizational ideas, etc. in order to keep it interesting.  Do you think I can do it?  Would you like to join me?

Here is what I'll be doing for the next few weeks: Checking my pins, marking up a calendar with the pins I will do (or complete) on each day, and gathering supplies - if I don't already have them.  Mind you, THIS WILL BE ON A BUDGET!

I hope you'll join me for this month-long journey of cooking, crafting, and organizing!  I'll be blogging in the meantime, but check back on 10/1/12 for my first pin. :)
